Releases March 11, 2025

  • After growing up in foster care, investigative reporter Naya Michél has learned there’s usually more to a situation than meets the eye. When she’s assigned a story about the current water contamination crisis in town, Naya is ready to show her boss she has what it takes to secure a promotion—especially since the events surrounding the story have personal ties to her childhood. When her investigation makes her the target of someone who wants the truth kept quiet, how far will Naya’s determination take her before the cost becomes too much?

Rescue Squad firefighter and former foster kid Zack Stephens is ready to step up his game at work when his boss hands him a cold case for hazmat training. As Zack delves into the case, he uncovers a shocking revelation—his parents’ deaths weren’t accidental. Determined to find their murderer, Zack throws himself into the investigation. But he doesn’t expect his search to collide with Naya, the girl he promised to protect when they lived in foster care together.

As threats mount and Naya is caught in the crosshairs, can Zack reconcile the mistakes of his past and find a killer before someone deals a lethal blow? And can the two of them learn to trust—and love—each other again despite the pain of their past?

Rescued Duty is a pulse-pounding tale of second chances, found family, and the unbreakable bonds forged in the face of adversity.

  • The inspiration behind each book is always its own story.

Zack and Naya’s story came to me after talking with some friends about foster care and adoption—a topic that has become near to my heart as I see the beauty of welcoming people into our families and showing them love.

So I did some research and came across a blog post sharing a Chinese Proverb. The proverb says that there is an invisible red thread that connects those destined to meet. The use of this proverb in the adoption world is seen through children being destined to meet the family they are meant to be with.

Immediately, my mind was spinning with ideas and I asked myself what does it look like to have a family when you have no blood relatives?

From there, Zack and Naya’s story of loss, family, and rescue was born.

Of course, I had to add in a healthy dose of suspense with a cold case, a water contamination crisis, and a murderer who will do anything to keep the truth buried.

There’s a duty to find the truth.

There’s a rescue waiting to happen.

  • A protected witness is exposed…

the race is on to keep her alive.

When her photo is leaked in the local paper, Avery Sanford’s identity in witness protection is compromised. She's the key witness to a murder, and a ruthless drug ring will stop at nothing to silence her. With attackers on her tail, Avery has no choice but to accept the help of former army commander Seth Brown. But keeping Avery alive long enough to testify could be the end for them both…

  • I’m thrilled to share Seth and Avery’s story with you!

This story was born one day while teaching middle school. Our school security officer walked by on his normal rounds and suddenly an idea sparked in my mind.

What if a school teacher crossed paths with someone from their past and needed protection but it was the last thing she wanted because it dredged up painful memories?

While my students worked on their assignment, I rushed to write down all the thoughts I had for Seth and Avery’s adventure.

  • “I really enjoyed this book. The story was full of action and suspense that made it difficult to put down. I especially enjoyed how she incorporated the faith inspired passages into a fictional story. It certainly will motivate me to incorporate similar thoughts into my own life's challenging moments. Laura did a great job of endearing me to the characters and I yearn to learn more about them. I can't wait to read the sequel to this story. Laura Conaway is definitely on my watch list.” Sky, Amazon Reader Review

“Conaway has a talent for bringing compelling characters alive on the page with interesting storylines and she did so here. If you're reading this and thinking, "okay, okay, enough with the character stuff, I like pulse pounding action!" Well, let me reassure you, this story had plenty of suspense and action but also an element of mystery, which I adored.” A. Butler, Amazon Reader Review

EMT Trace Bently came back to Last Chance County to escape his past. If he can face the grief he buried.

Family Counselor Kelsey Scott has to secure this grant or admit failure. She can’t afford to lose any more pieces of the life she wants because of her own choices. When Kelsey becomes the target of a series of dangerous attacks, Trace steps in determined to protect his wife’s best friend. This hero breaks down all her resistance, but Kelsey can’t risk her own heart.

Even if it’s what will set them both free.

  • I fell in love with Lisa Phillips’ Last Chance County series that combines high-stakes suspense and unexpected twists with romance. Now I got to write the fourth book in the new Last Chance Fire and Rescue Series!

Trace and Kelsey’s characters were so fun to write. They feel the odds stacked up against them, yet are relatable because they wrestle with weaknesses, desires, and their walk with God at every juncture of life just like us.

  • “Both main characters dealt with deep hurts from their past. I could relate on a deep level to Kelsey. She had to learn that she was worthy of being loved by others and God. I am rarely moved to tears by books but this one really touched my heart.” Laura Hambry, Amazon Reader Review

“This book had me wrapped completely up in each scene and I could not put it down and walk away easily. Conaway’s writing reached out to my heart and my soul, as Trace and Kelsey tried to put the pain of the past aside while getting to know one another once again.” Tina Lowery, Amazon Reader Review

Hudson Taylor is an acclaimed sketch artist for the metro D.C. police force. It’s been five years since an accident stripped him of the life he once dreamed of and now he’s left with grueling chronic pain as a reminder. When he’s summoned to produce a composite drawing of an intruder, his past collides with his present when he realizes his former girlfriend, and high school sweetheart, Felicia, is the attacker’s target. Hudson and Felicia are good at pushing each other away, but now their lives depend on working together. Against all odds, will they find a way to sacrifice their pride and set aside their hurts? And are the broken pieces beyond mending or can they discover a way back to the love they once shared and redeem the shadows?

  • This story was birthed after reading about the life of Joseph in Genesis 37 - 50. He still chose to give God glory even when his circumstances warranted a different response. He chose to live with integrity even when his circumstances could have caused him to give in. He counted the cost of following Yahweh, even when the road ahead looked bleak.

We all make decisions every day. And those decisions require us to count the costs and the sacrifice involved.

Read Hudson and Felicia’s story to see what sacrifices they’re willing to make and finish this story empowered to count the costs in your own life and take a step of bold faith.
