more than enough

It can be easy in today’s culture to have a consumer mindset—wanting the newest technology, the newest shoes or clothing style. Asking what can I receive from this relationship, posting this picture, or participating in this event.

Yet, each time we receive what we thought we needed, it only leaves us happy and content for a period. There’s no lasting joy or satisfaction, because there will always be something new to crave.

So, if this cycle continually occurs, how do we get out of this mindset?

Psalm 16 displays the answer beautifully. David writes in verse 5 “Lord, you alone are my portion and my cup; you make my lot secure.” In the New Living Translation, the second part of this verse says, “you guard all that is mine.”

God alone is our portion! He is the only one who can satisfy us completely. In Him, we lack nothing. In verse 2, David tells us that “You are my Lord; apart from you I have no good thing.” There is nothing good in anything other than God.

But if we lack nothing in God, and nothing else is good enough, what exactly are we receiving through the Lord? Well, I’m glad you asked!

God guards all that is ours, which includes forgiveness of sins (Isaiah 43:25, Romans 8:1-2), binding up our wounds (Psalm 147:3), joy in His presence (Psalm 16:11), salvation and eternal life (Psalm 16:11), healing our diseases (Psalm 103: 3), adoption into His family (Romans 8:14-17), His protection (2 Thessalonians 3:3, Psalm 46:1), His provision (Genesis 22:14, Matthew 6:25-27), His peace (John 14:27), and so much more.

There is LIFE, JOY, and PEACE found in the Lord, friends. We have a delightful inheritance if we are following God (v. 6). Whether in a season of prosperity or a season of difficulty and trials, God is more than enough, and He provides us with every good thing.

We are not left wanting. We are whole, complete, satisfied, and fulfilled by having the Lord on our side.

Take a moment to reread that statement.
Let that beautiful truth sink into your heart.

That new trend or fashion statement, that relationship or job may be good. But, it won’t last forever. God alone is everything you need for this life and the life to come.

I pray you walk confidently and boldly in that freedom today.
